Davenport, Iowa – Smoke-filled skies and unseasonably warm temperatures will set the stage for severe storms across eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois by Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, an incoming cold front and rising humidity will trigger multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday afternoon through the overnight hours. Storm chances peak between 3 p.m. and midnight, with the strongest cells capable of producing damaging winds and torrential rain. Rainfall rates could exceed an inch per hour in isolated areas.
Communities across the Mississippi River Valley—including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Galesburg—should prepare for possible power outages, localized street flooding, and poor driving visibility. Breezy conditions may also develop ahead of the storms. The Iowa DOT and Illinois DOT advise avoiding travel during peak storm hours if possible.
Temperatures will drop into the 50s overnight before rebounding slightly Wednesday. Skies will stay mostly dry midweek before another round of rain approaches late Thursday.
Severe weather warnings remain possible through Tuesday night; residents are encouraged to monitor NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts for updates.
