Portage, MI — A 92-year-old man was found dead following a house fire Wednesday on Long Lake Drive, according to Portage Public Safety. Firefighters responded around 3:35 p.m. after receiving reports of flames emerging from a residence’s doors and windows.
Fire crews quickly contained the blaze but discovered the man’s body inside during their search. According to Fire Marshal Steve Tanner, firefighters encountered intense flames upon arrival, with fire spreading rapidly through the home’s front entrance and windows.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the fire. The Portage Department of Public Safety, along with its Fire Marshal’s Office and Police Division’s Detective Bureau, are leading the investigation. Officials have not yet disclosed the victim’s identity.
