Slanesville, WV – A 10-year-old child died and other juveniles suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday in Hampshire County, authorities said.
According to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded during the early morning hours Saturday, Aug. 8, to a crash near the intersection of West Virginia Routes 29 and 127 in the Slanesville area.
The sheriff’s office said the 10-year-old died from injuries sustained in the crash. Other juveniles involved suffered serious injuries, though authorities did not specify how many children were hurt or provide details about their conditions.
Patrol deputies and criminal investigators with the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities said those involved were from outside West Virginia. The sheriff’s office did not release their identities or additional identifying information Saturday, citing respect for the families and the need to ensure appropriate next of kin had been properly notified.
Officials also did not provide information about what may have caused the vehicle to crash, who was driving or whether anyone else was inside the vehicle.
The crash occurred near Slanesville in Hampshire County, part of West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle region. Motorists traveling along Routes 29 and 127 should remain attentive to any law enforcement activity associated with the ongoing investigation.
The sheriff’s office said additional information will be released when appropriate and as the investigation allows.
Authorities have not announced any charges in connection with the crash. The investigation remained active Saturday.
