Portage, IN – A 20-year-old Portage man allegedly fled from police at speeds over 100 mph before crashing on I-69, authorities said.
According to Indiana State Police, troopers attempted to stop Ethan Schlyer last week near mile marker 124 for an expired license plate. Instead of pulling over, Schlyer reportedly accelerated, leading police on a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when Schlyer lost control, struck a guardrail, and crashed into an embankment.
Schlyer was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police said they suspect alcohol played a role in the crash, though the investigation is ongoing.
