Joplin, MO Man Shot, Killed After Allegedly Firing at Deputy

A Joplin man was fatally shot Saturday evening after allegedly firing a shotgun at a deputy responding to a disturbance at his residence on 850 W. Fountain Road.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Antwiler, 60, emerged from the home with a shotgun and fired at the deputy. The deputy returned fire, striking Antwiler. Emergency aid was provided, but Antwiler was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 8:24 p.m. The deputy was not injured.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
