Watseka, IL – Iroquois County residents can join a critical discussion on public safety and disaster preparedness next month. Officials will host a Natural Hazards Mitigation Planning Committee meeting at the MABAS 37 Building, located at 103½ Main St. in Crescent City, on Thursday, December 12, at 6:30 p.m.
According to Scott Anderson, Iroquois County EMA Coordinator, the committee began updating the All Hazards Mitigation Plan in January 2024. The plan reviews past severe weather events and identifies projects to reduce risks to residents and infrastructure.
The updated plan will help Iroquois County qualify for FEMA grant funding to support these mitigation efforts. Projects discussed during the December meeting will be part of the final plan submitted to state and federal agencies.
The public can further review and comment on the draft plan during a forum on February 13, 2025. A two-week comment period will follow to accommodate those unable to attend.
Residents are encouraged to share feedback or questions directly with the EMA office or committee members.
