A Plainfield Township man was arrested Friday after a standoff with law enforcement following an alleged assault on a 42-year-old woman.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 9:40 a.m. to a home on the 25100 block of Diana Court, where the woman had reportedly been struck in the head multiple times with a firearm. Authorities said the victim fled the residence and hid in a nearby vehicle before being located by Plainfield Police officers. She was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Deputies reported that the suspect, Devin Nier, 42, remained inside the residence with what was initially described as a “hostage.” A reverse 911 alert was issued, advising nearby residents to shelter in place as traffic was halted and a perimeter established.

SWAT team negotiators successfully convinced Nier to surrender without further incident. A search of the residence uncovered a rifle and ammunition, but the suspected weapon—a revolver—was not located, nor was any hostage found.

Nier was charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery and is being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Additional charges are pending.

The victim is expected to be released from medical care soon.
