Bourbonnais, IL – A man jumped from the Larry Power Bridge onto Interstate 57 Friday morning, briefly closing the highway.

Illinois State Police (ISP) reported responding to a mental health crisis at the bridge at approximately 11:42 a.m. The man jumped from the bridge, landing on the northbound lanes of I-57.

Authorities transported the man to a local hospital before transferring him to a Chicagoland facility for further care. ISP confirmed I-57 was closed for about 15 minutes during the response.

Officials said the individual’s injuries were not disclosed, and there are no additional updates on his condition at this time. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

The brief closure caused minor traffic delays, but the roadway quickly reopened after emergency services cleared the scene.
