Philadelphia, PA – Temperatures will fall below freezing across the Delaware Valley overnight, creating immediate risks for Tuesday morning travel and widespread damage to early-season crops.

According to the National Weather Service, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Tuesday for eastern Pennsylvania, most of New Jersey, Delaware, and parts of eastern Maryland. Overnight lows are expected to drop to 26 degrees in parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with areas like Sussex County falling as low as 22 degrees.

Major cities including Philadelphia, Trenton, Camden, Wilmington, and Allentown will see several hours of sub-freezing temperatures. Key travel routes such as I-95, I-76, the New Jersey Turnpike, and I-295 may develop patchy frost on bridges and overpasses, especially between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m., impacting the morning commute.

Agricultural losses are likely across the region. Orchards, vineyards, and backyard gardens face a high risk of freeze damage after recent warm weather accelerated growth. In rural counties across Berks, Lancaster, and Lehigh Valley, colder pockets may see more widespread frost.

Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, disconnect hoses, and protect exposed pipes. Motorists are urged to use caution early Tuesday when frost is most likely on untreated surfaces.

Temperatures will rise above freezing after 9 a.m., but additional cold nights could extend the threat across the Mid-Atlantic through midweek.
