Midland, Texas – A magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck just south of Westbrook at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, sending brief shaking across parts of the Midland-Odessa region and nearby oil field operations.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake hit 26 kilometers south of Westbrook at a depth of 6.0 kilometers, a level shallow enough to be felt near the surface but unlikely to cause structural damage. The event has been reviewed and confirmed by seismic networks, including TexNet.
Light tremors may have been noticed in Midland, Snyder, and along stretches of Interstate 20, particularly in areas with dense drilling activity. No road closures or infrastructure damage have been reported, but energy operators in the Permian Basin may review equipment and well sites as a precaution.
Residents who felt shaking are encouraged to report it through official channels to help refine seismic data. While quakes of this size rarely cause harm, securing loose items and staying aware of surroundings can reduce risk during aftershocks.
Seismic activity in this part of West Texas remains under close watch, with additional updates expected if further movement is detected.
