Paducah, KY – Drivers along Interstate 24 could face repeated downpours as early as Tuesday morning as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms bring up to 3.5 inches of rain through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a very warm and unsettled pattern will deliver on-and-off showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday through early next week. Rainfall totals from Tuesday through Sunday are expected to range between 1.5 and 3.5 inches across western Kentucky, southern Illinois and southwest Indiana.

Storm chances increase Tuesday, especially across southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and southwest Indiana before spreading across western Kentucky. By Wednesday and Thursday, numerous showers and embedded thunderstorms are likely, with rain chances climbing as high as 70% to 80% at times.

In Paducah, Murray, Mayfield and along the I-24 and I-69 corridors, repeated rainfall could lead to ponding on roadways and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Water may collect on US-60, US-45 and the Purchase Parkway during heavier bursts, reducing visibility and slowing traffic. Rainfall rates could briefly exceed one-half inch per hour in stronger storms.

Temperatures will run 15 to 25 degrees above normal through Friday, with highs pushing into the 70s and lower 80s. The warmer air will enhance instability, allowing thunderstorms to redevelop during peak afternoon hours.

Residents should clear storm drains, secure outdoor items and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Conditions remain unsettled through Sunday night, and additional advisories may be issued if rainfall totals trend higher.
