Tulsa, Oklahoma – Drivers in northeast Oklahoma should prepare for delays Friday as heavy rain and flooding risks persist through early afternoon, especially near low-lying roads like U.S. 75 in Tulsa and the Caney River near Collinsville.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 p.m. CDT Friday, with minor flooding already reported along the Caney River. Showers and thunderstorms will continue through late morning, tapering off by the afternoon. Some storms could bring localized rainfall totals of over an inch, especially in eastern and northeast Oklahoma.
Communities in Tulsa, Rogers, Wagoner, and Mayes counties may experience ponding on roads and rising creeks. If you encounter water on the roadway, turn around, don’t drown. Avoid unnecessary travel through flood-prone areas and have devices charged in case of outages. Wind gusts up to 40 mph and dangerous lightning remain possible.
After Friday, drier weather begins to build in. The weekend features scattered storms Saturday but mostly sunny skies return by Sunday. Temperatures will climb back into the mid-80s by the start of next week.
More rain and isolated storms may return Tuesday and Wednesday, but no additional alerts are posted at this time. Stay weather-aware and monitor updates from the NWS Tulsa office.
