Hounsfield, NY – A fatal motorcycle crash in Jefferson County claimed the life of one rider and seriously injured another Saturday morning in the Town of Hounsfield.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriffโs Office, the crash happened at approximately 1:35 a.m. Saturday on Jericho Road as a group of motorcyclists traveled southbound. Authorities said two riders failed to negotiate a curve, causing both motorcycles to leave the roadway onto the right shoulder.
Investigators reported that a 2005 Yamaha operated by Patrick E. McGrew, 20, of Watertown, collided with a parked pickup truck in a driveway along Jericho Road. A second rider, identified as Cheyenne D. Middlemiss, 33, of Evans Mills, was operating a 2007 Yamaha and struck a mailbox at the same location.
Emergency responders arrived to find fellow motorcyclists already attempting to assist the injured riders. McGrew was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where he later died from his injuries. Middlemiss was taken by Guilfoyle Ambulance to Watertown International Airport before being airlifted by LifeNet to Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse. Officials said he is currently listed in stable condition.
The Sheriffโs Office confirmed the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released as authorities continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Sackets Harbor Fire, Northpole Fire, the Town of Hounsfield Highway Department, and the New York State Police.
Officials have not indicated whether speed or road conditions played a role, but the incident underscores ongoing concerns about motorcycle safety on rural roadways.
