Wenatchee, WA – The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is expanding its ongoing wellness efforts with a new initiative aimed at improving the long-term health of its deputies. The program brings on-site preventive screenings to commissioned staff, focusing on early detection of cardiovascular and chronic health conditions.

According to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, the screenings were conducted Tuesday as part of a partnership with Life Line Wellness Screening, reaching 36 staff members. The effort is tied to the agency’s broader Officer Wellness Program, which is designed to support both the physical and mental readiness of deputies serving the community.

Officials said the voluntary screenings assessed key indicators linked to stroke, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses commonly associated with high-stress professions like law enforcement. Each session took approximately 30 to 40 minutes, allowing deputies to participate without significantly disrupting daily operations.

The initiative is funded through a Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Officer Wellness Grant. Authorities said the grant was secured through the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Behavioral Health Unit, helping bring preventative care directly to deputies in the workplace.

Sheriff’s officials noted the screenings build on more than three years of investment in wellness resources. Those efforts include gym membership support, in-house fitness equipment, peer support networks, crisis intervention training, and access to therapy and behavioral health services. Additional tools such as neurofeedback technology and family support programs have also been introduced.

Leaders say the continued focus on wellness reflects a commitment to ensuring deputies remain physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared for their duties. The program is expected to continue evolving as more resources become available.
