Kinston, NC – A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Lenoir and Duplin counties in eastern North Carolina until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, with damaging winds and a potential tornado threat.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport, severe thunderstorms were moving northeast at 75 mph as of 2:05 p.m., with radar indicating wind gusts up to 70 mph. The storms are expected to cause tree damage and structural impacts, especially to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
Residents in Kinston, La Grange, Beulaville, and surrounding areas should take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. A tornado watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. for eastern North Carolina.
