Greenland, NH – A multi-car crash on Interstate 95 Wednesday night resulted in serious injuries and a five-hour highway closure, authorities said.
The crash occurred at 9:10 p.m. near mile marker 10.8. According to New Hampshire State Police, a southbound 2017 Volkswagen Golf rear-ended a 2022 Toyota 4Runner, causing the Toyota to veer off the road. The Volkswagen then crossed into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
The driver of the 2017 Volkswagen was thrown from the vehicle, which caught fire. He was transported to a nearby hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Golf GTI was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the Toyota driver sustained minor injuries and a passenger in the Toyota was uninjured.
Troopers closed both sides of I-95 while emergency crews worked to clear debris and investigate the crash. The highway reopened at 2:07 a.m.
