Newark, DE – A Delaware woman faces felony assault and weapon charges after state police say she allegedly struck a storage facility employee multiple times with a hammer and placed the victim in a chokehold Tuesday morning.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded around 10 a.m. Tuesday to Storage Rentals of America at 2090 Stafford Way in Newark for a reported fight in progress. Troopers found two people with visible injuries and contacted 35-year-old Amber Goldsborough of Townsend.

Police said the confrontation began after facility staff informed Goldsborough that she was no longer permitted to conduct business there. She allegedly became involved in a verbal dispute with an employee and threatened to harm the worker.

During the confrontation, Goldsborough allegedly struck the employee multiple times with a hammer before placing the person in a chokehold that restricted the employee’s ability to breathe, according to police.

A witness intervened and separated the two, but police allege Goldsborough then assaulted the witness. Both victims went inside the business and locked the door as Goldsborough allegedly continued yelling threats.

The employee was transported to a local hospital with injuries police described as non-life-threatening. The second victim declined medical treatment at the scene.

Troopers said Goldsborough physically resisted when they attempted to take her into custody. Following a brief struggle, she was arrested without further incident.

Goldsborough was taken to Troop 6 and charged with felony assault and weapon offenses, among other charges, according to police. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court, she was committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $74,001 cash bond.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
