Cape Girardeau, MO – Southeast Missouri is bracing for severe weather this Sunday, as showers and thunderstorms develop in the region by mid-afternoon. The storms are expected to move eastward through Sunday evening, with the most intense conditions predicted west of Interstate 57, particularly in the Ozark Foothills.

According to the National Weather Service, the greatest risk for severe weather will occur between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., with a peak window from 8 p.m. to midnight. The storms may bring strong winds reaching up to 60 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, and a tornado risk. Areas around Van Buren, Poplar Bluff, and the surrounding counties are expected to experience the worst of the conditions.

Residents should prepare for potentially hazardous conditions and stay informed on local weather alerts. The National Weather Service has advised taking precautions to secure outdoor items and have an emergency plan in place.
