Missouri–Illinois Weather Alert Now: Chilly Start in St. Louis Area, Big Temperature Swing Ahead

Missouri greets the morning with frosty air and a pale winter sky. Exhaust hangs briefly above roadways, and windshields feel stiff to the touch.

Across eastern Missouri and the St. Louis metro, temperatures sit near 31 degrees early today. Winds stay light, but the cold lingers long enough to refreeze damp pavement. Watch for slick spots on bridges and ramps, especially along I-64 and I-55.

Sunshine takes control as the morning progresses. Afternoon highs climb into the mid-40s, helping thaw surfaces and ease travel conditions. To be fair, the warmth still feels modest, but it sets the stage for a dramatic shift.

Tonight cools back into the mid-20s, keeping Winter firmly in place for one more round. Patchy refreezing remains possible where snowmelt or moisture lingers.

Saturday stays mostly sunny yet cooler. Highs reach the mid-30s, with calm winds and dry conditions. Outdoor plans remain manageable with layers.

Sunday changes the mood entirely. Skies stay bright, and temperatures surge to around 53 degrees. The air feels noticeably softer, and snow piles shrink fast. Expect wet pavement by afternoon as melting accelerates.

Sunday night remains mild for February, with lows near 33 degrees. That reduces refreeze risk compared to recent nights, though shaded areas may still glaze briefly.

Early next week leans even warmer. Monday reaches near 60 degrees, pushing well above normal. Clouds increase Tuesday with rain chances around 40 percent, signaling a pattern shift rather than a return to snow.

Looking six to ten days out, above-normal temperatures dominate much of the Midwest. Signs of spring are not guaranteed, but the door is cracking open.
