Minnesota wakes up under heavy clouds and restless wind as winter tightens its grip again. Flags snap, bare trees sway, and the air feels sharper with every passing hour.

Across the Twin Cities, temperatures hover in the mid-30s early this morning. That number will not last. Cold air pours in fast, and readings slide into the low 20s by late afternoon. Northwest winds strengthen quickly, gusting 25 to 30 mph, making it feel much colder than the thermometer suggests.

Drivers should expect a noticeable impact today. Blowing winds may push lightweight snow and debris across roadways, especially on open stretches of I-94 and I-35. Visibility could briefly dip during stronger gusts. Plan extra time if traveling later today.

Tonight turns quiet but colder. Skies partially clear, and lows fall to around 7 degrees. Untreated pavement may refreeze where moisture lingers, creating slick spots by early morning.

Saturday brings more clouds and a muted rebound. Highs reach only the mid-20s, with southeast winds picking up during the afternoon. No major snow is expected, but the gray sky keeps the day feeling raw.

Sunday offers the brightest stretch. Sunshine returns, and highs climb to the mid-30s, easing the chill slightly. Outdoor plans improve, though snowpack melt during the afternoon could refreeze after sunset.

Early next week stays active. Monday turns mostly cloudy with highs near 41 degrees, signaling a warming trend. By Tuesday and Wednesday, snow chances return at 20 percent, mainly light but worth watching during commutes.

Looking ahead six to ten days, temperatures trend above normal, hinting at a slow February thaw. Winter is not done, but relief is visible.
