Galesville, WI – Rising water levels along the Black River are setting the stage for potential flooding by midweek, with impacts expected to grow into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Flood Watch remains in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday evening for areas near the Black River at Galesville. River levels were measured at 8.3 feet early Tuesday, with forecasts indicating the river could reach flood stage of 12 feet by Wednesday afternoon.
Low-lying farmland and rural areas in Trempealeau and La Crosse counties will be the first to see impacts. Portions of County Road VV in Jackson County may begin to flood on both approaches to the river crossing, potentially leading to gate closures if water levels continue rising.
Residents near the river are urged to monitor water levels closely and prepare for possible warnings. Those with agricultural interests should move equipment and livestock to higher ground ahead of rising المياه.
Water levels are expected to remain elevated through the end of the week, with additional updates scheduled later Tuesday evening as conditions evolve.
