Kansas City, MO – Dangerous cold will grip Kansas City this weekend as wind chills plummet to as low as -20. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory, warning residents to dress warmly and limit time outdoors to avoid hypothermia and frostbite.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday’s highs will only reach the low 20s, but wind chill values will make it feel much colder. Temperatures will fall to single digits Saturday night, with wind chills dipping below zero. The cold will intensify Sunday, with daytime highs near 13 degrees and wind chills ranging from -5 to -20.

The frigid conditions will continue through Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with highs only reaching the upper teens Monday and dropping to -1 overnight. By Tuesday, expect slightly warmer temperatures, with highs near 22 degrees, but wind chills will still be in the dangerous range during early mornings.

Drivers should exercise caution on roads like I-435 and I-70, as freezing temperatures increase the risk of black ice, especially at night. Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors, bring pets indoors, and keep emergency supplies on hand.

The National Weather Service also urges everyone to watch for early signs of hypothermia, such as confusion and shivering. Extreme cold weather gear, including multiple layers and face masks, is recommended.
