Mississippi and West Tennessee Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 5 p.m. Friday

Memphis, TN – A broad swath of northern Mississippi and western Tennessee remains under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 5 p.m. CDT Friday, with the potential for damaging winds, hail, and intense lightning in multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 209 includes 17 counties in Mississippi and 14 in Tennessee. The alert covers cities such as Tupelo, Oxford, Corinth, Jackson, and Paris, where scattered storms could intensify through the afternoon.

In Mississippi, counties including Lafayette, Lee, Panola, and Union are on alert for severe cells capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Meanwhile, in Tennessee, Madison, Gibson, and Hardeman counties are among those being monitored for fast-moving storms that may disrupt travel on major routes like I-22 and US-45.

Residents in both states are urged to secure outdoor items, remain indoors during storms, and keep phones charged in case of power outages. Drivers should watch for sudden downpours and reduced visibility, especially during the late afternoon commute.
