Crown Point, IN – Drivers in Lake County are being advised to prepare for significant traffic disruptions in Crown Point as a major bridge project over Interstate 65 begins this week, bringing overnight lane closures and long-term changes to traffic flow.

According to INDOT Northwest, the 113th Avenue bridge over I-65 will close on or after Monday through the end of October as crews begin a bridge deck and partial superstructure replacement project. Officials say the existing bridge deck will be demolished and rebuilt, while concrete beams will be replaced with steel.

As part of the construction, overnight lane closures on I-65 between 109th Avenue and U.S. 231 are scheduled to begin Monday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately three weeks. Transportation officials say these closures will allow crews to establish a work zone beneath the bridge and begin initial demolition work.

The ramp from 109th Avenue to southbound I-65 is also expected to close during overnight hours beginning Monday at 10 p.m. through Tuesday at 4 a.m. The ramp may reopen the following evening, depending on construction progress.

INDOT officials say lane shifts will remain in place throughout the duration of the project, with three travel lanes in each direction expected to shift to the left during the first phase. Those changes are projected to continue through early September.

Additional overnight lane closures may occur as needed for worker safety and access to the bridge structure. Motorists are urged to use caution, expect delays, and consider alternate routes when traveling through the area.
