Eddy County, ND – Four passengers suffered serious injuries, including one with life-threatening injuries, after a suspected DUI crash early Sunday east of Sheyenne, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
According to the Highway Patrol, a 26-year-old New Rockford man was driving a 2007 GMC Yukon west on 29th Street Northeast around 1:51 a.m. Sunday when he allegedly failed to negotiate a curve near the 6900 block of Eddy County Road 1.
The Yukon left the roadway, overcorrected and entered a ditch, authorities said.
A 23-year-old New Rockford man suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He was initially taken to CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington before being airlifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
A 32-year-old New Rockford woman suffered serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Two juvenile passengers, a girl and a boy, also suffered serious injuries and were transported to Altru Hospital in Devils Lake.
A 21-year-old male passenger was not injured. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a Carrington hospital.
Highway Patrol said none of the six occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The driver was charged with DUI, according to authorities. Additional charges are pending as investigators continue reviewing the crash.
Road and weather conditions were reported as dry.
The Eddy County Sheriff’s Department and multiple fire, EMS and ambulance agencies assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
