Milwaukee, WI — A Milwaukee police officer shot and injured a 19-year-old suspect Monday night during an arrest on South 7th Street.
Officers arrived at a residence in the 2500 block of South 7th Street around 9:37 p.m., seeking a suspect wanted for alleged child sexual assault and enticement. The suspect pulled a firearm while speaking with officers, according to a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department.
A struggle over the weapon ensued between the suspect and two officers. During the altercation, one officer, an eight-year veteran of the department, discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities recovered the firearm, and criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative duty, per department protocol. The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
The department confirmed video footage of the incident will be released following Standard Operating Procedure 575. Updates will follow as the investigation continues.
