Driver Fatigue Suspected in Tractor-Trailer Crash on Maine Turnpike

Wells, ME – A tractor-trailer crashed on the Maine Turnpike near mile marker 18 Monday afternoon, prompting an investigation by state police. The truck, traveling northbound, lost control and veered into the median, hitting a guardrail before crossing into the southbound lanes. It came to a stop in a wooded area beside the highway.

According to the Maine State Police, the crash occurred around 4:43 p.m. Driver fatigue is suspected as a contributing factor. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed no citations had been issued as of Monday night.

The accident caused minimal traffic disruptions, with both northbound and southbound lanes remaining open. Troop G received assistance from the Maine Turnpike Maintenance team, National Towing, and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

Officials urge drivers to stay alert and rested when traveling long distances, emphasizing safety on winter roads. The investigation remains ongoing.
