Marquette residents should brace for a stormy Wednesday night before conditions turn calmer ahead of the busy Labor Day weekend. Heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause slippery driving on US-41 and other local roads through late tonight. Travelers are urged to slow down and avoid unnecessary trips during peak rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, thunderstorms are likely before 1 a.m. Thursday, with gusty winds up to 25 mph. Rainfall totals may reach a quarter inch, with locally higher amounts possible inside storms. Cooler temperatures near 52 degrees tonight could also reduce visibility with patchy fog in low-lying areas.

By Thursday morning, rain chances drop quickly, with skies turning partly sunny. Highs will reach 56, though a stiff north wind may keep the day feeling cooler along Lake Superior. Winds ease by evening, setting the stage for several days of sun.

Friday through the holiday weekend looks clear and warm, a welcome change for late-summer travelers and outdoor events. Sunny skies return Friday with highs near 62, climbing to the mid-70s by Sunday and Monday. Roads, campgrounds, and Lake Superior beaches should see increased holiday traffic as families take advantage of the break.

Drivers should remain cautious through Wednesday night but can expect safe, dry conditions heading into Labor Day. Additional weather updates may be issued if storms intensify.
