Duluth, MN – Dry and breezy conditions will elevate fire danger across northern Minnesota by Monday afternoon, just as temperatures begin a steady climb toward the 60s by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a brief cooldown this weekend will give way to warming temperatures starting Sunday, with highs rising from the 30s and 40s into the upper 50s and 60s by Wednesday. The immediate concern is Monday, when low humidity and increasing winds could allow fires to spread quickly, especially along forested areas and open fields.

Communities including Duluth, Brainerd, and International Falls will see the driest conditions Monday afternoon, with gusty winds and humidity levels dropping enough to create elevated fire risk. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of cigarettes and other ignition sources.

The pattern shifts late week. A more active system arrives Thursday into Friday, bringing widespread rain that could be soaking at times and help reduce fire danger. This system may also impact travel with wet roads and reduced visibility along major routes like I-35 and US-53.

Conditions remain dry through Wednesday, with the highest fire concern focused on Monday afternoon. Additional updates are expected as the late-week rain system approaches.
