Gaylord, MI – Snow showers and falling temperatures will impact northern Michigan overnight, with lows dropping to 24°F and light accumulation possible before the Sunday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered snow showers will continue through Sunday, with isolated areas picking up up to 1 to 2 inches. The most active period begins late tonight and continues into Sunday afternoon as colder air settles across the region.
Communities including Gaylord, Traverse City, Petoskey, and Grayling may see light snow accumulation, especially on grassy and elevated surfaces. While major highways like I-75 and US-131 are expected to remain mostly wet, brief slick spots could develop during heavier bursts of snow, particularly early Sunday morning.
Daytime highs Sunday will struggle to reach the mid-40s, with overnight lows dropping again into the upper teens and 20s by Sunday night. Gusty winds and lingering snow showers could reduce visibility at times.
Drivers should watch for changing road conditions and allow extra travel time, especially during early morning hours. Residents should also prepare for colder-than-normal temperatures by protecting sensitive plants and checking heating systems.
Conditions begin to improve Monday with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s. A more noticeable warmup arrives Tuesday, with temperatures climbing into the 50s and 60s across northern Michigan.
