Macon, GA – A security investigation at Middle Georgia Regional Airport Tuesday morning, May 12, prompted a temporary evacuation and bomb squad response after a suspicious object was discovered inside the facility.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 8:21 a.m. when the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center was notified. Deputies and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units responded to the airport and conducted a sweep of the building.

Authorities say bomb detection canines alerted to a suspicious object located inside a vending machine within a secure area of the airport. The bomb squad secured the item and conducted further examination.

After a thorough search of the airport and additional investigation, officials confirmed that no hazardous devices were found.

No injuries were reported, and authorities noted that no staff or passengers were inside the airport at the time the object was discovered.

The Middle Georgia Regional Airport has since reopened following the conclusion of the investigation.

Officials have not released additional details about the object but emphasized that safety protocols were followed throughout the response.

Residents and travelers in the Macon area can expect normal operations to resume at the airport following the precautionary closure.
