Baltimore, MD – Dry air and gusty winds on Sunday will create elevated fire risks across Maryland and Virginia, weather officials warn.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), relative humidity levels are expected to drop to 25-35% Sunday afternoon, with sustained winds of 10-15 mph and gusts reaching up to 30 mph in some areas. Combined with dry ground conditions, this significantly increases the potential for wildfires. Residents are strongly advised to avoid outdoor burning and to exercise caution when handling flammable materials.
In Northern Virginia and parts of Maryland, temperatures will remain seasonally cool Sunday night, dropping to the low 30s. Southwest winds could create additional chill, despite highs near 58°F earlier in the day.
The region will see a milder start to the week on Monday with sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s, before rain returns Tuesday night into Wednesday. Forecasters warn of potential localized flooding as heavy rain moves through.
Residents should stay informed about changing conditions and follow local burn restrictions. Prepare for wet commutes midweek and secure outdoor items ahead of high winds.
