Michigan – Cold air bites across Marquette this morning as damp roads, gusty winds, and falling temperatures set up a messy and potentially slick start across the Upper Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch remains in effect through early this morning as lingering moisture and runoff continue to impact low-lying areas. Temperatures hover in the mid-30s, but conditions are shifting quickly as colder air moves in behind a passing system.

Across Marquette, Harvey, and along US-41, light rain early today may mix with or change to snow as temperatures fall toward the upper 20s tonight. Winds gusting up to 25 to 30 mph will add a biting chill and could reduce visibility during any brief snow bursts. Drivers should watch for wet pavement turning slick, especially on bridges and shaded roads.

The bigger concern arrives by early Sunday morning. Lows drop near 25°F, creating ideal conditions for flash freezing where moisture remains. That could lead to icy patches during early travel hours. Plan extra time and use caution if heading out.

This pattern reflects a broader cold front sweeping across the Midwest, bringing a sharp return to winter-like conditions even as the calendar pushes deeper into spring. While severe storms stay well south, northern Michigan faces rapid temperature swings and mixed precipitation.

Conditions improve by Monday with sunshine and highs near 45°F, followed by a steady warm-up into the low 50s by Tuesday. That trend continues into midweek, offering a brief stretch of calmer spring weather.
