Bangor, Maine – The most intense heat of 2025 will grip Maine on Tuesday, with dangerously high humidity and temperatures pushing the heat index above 105°F in several counties south of Katahdin, including Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect Tuesday for Southern Penobscot, Interior Hancock, and Central Washington Counties. A Heat Advisory covers a broader area, including Northern and Coastal Washington, Southeastern Aroostook, and parts of Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Feels-like temperatures in Millinocket, Lincoln, and Topsfield could reach 106°F to 109°F by Tuesday afternoon.

The high humidity and heat pose a serious risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Overnight lows in the 70s inland will provide little relief, keeping conditions oppressive through early Wednesday.

Scattered thunderstorms with gusty winds are possible Tuesday evening as a cold front pushes through, bringing cooler, drier air into Wednesday. Further updates may be issued if conditions worsen.
