Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Torrential rain could flood roads and swell rivers across eastern Iowa through Wednesday, with flash flooding likely in cities like Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Iowa City.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, storms will bring widespread heavy rainfall starting Monday night, with a 50% to 80% chance of more than 2 inches falling across a large swath of the state. The greatest risk is in the yellow-shaded area, where Flood Threat Level 2 is in effect.

Counties including Linn, Johnson, Dubuque, and Scott may see rapid rises in creeks and urban flooding on low-lying roads. Riverbanks along the Cedar and Iowa Rivers could become hazardous, especially near Coralville and Tipton.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads, as just six inches of moving water can sweep away a vehicle. Residents along rivers should monitor levels closely at water.noaa.gov and prepare for potential evacuation if necessary.

Warnings remain in place through Wednesday evening, and additional advisories may follow if rainfall rates intensify.
