Lake Charles, La. –

Dangerous heat is gripping southwest Louisiana and parts of southeast Texas this Saturday, with heat index values topping out between 101°F and 107°F across the region. Residents planning outdoor activities are urged to limit exertion and stay hydrated through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, Saturday brings partly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-90s, but humidity will make it feel far hotter. Winds from the south at 5 to 10 mph will offer little relief. The oppressive heat is expected to break slightly Sunday, but not before afternoon highs again approach the mid-90s.

Rain chances begin climbing Sunday, with a 20% to 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms expected in the afternoon. Daily storm chances will continue into next week as a moist and unstable air mass lingers over the region. The highest chances—up to 70%—are likely on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Cities including Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Beaumont will see steamy conditions through the weekend. Heat index readings in Crowley and De Ridder exceeded 105°F by midday Saturday.

Prepare by limiting time outdoors, wearing light clothing, and checking on neighbors without air conditioning.

Rain and storm chances remain elevated through Thursday.
