According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, scattered strong to severe storms will most likely hit between midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday, with the highest risk concentrated in southern Vermont and northeastern New York. The main hazards include wind gusts over 60 mph and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Areas along the I-89 corridor should prepare for reduced visibility and potential power outages overnight.
By late Sunday morning, attention shifts to a prolonged heat event. A Heat Advisory will go into effect at 11 a.m. Sunday, followed by an Extreme Heat Watch starting Monday morning and lasting through Tuesday evening. Heat index values could climb to 105°F, especially in the Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys.
