Dodge City, Kansas – Storms could fire quickly across south central Kansas by 6 p.m. Tuesday, bringing the risk of large hail and damaging wind gusts during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon as a dryline shifts west. The strongest storms are most likely between 6 p.m. and midnight, with a Level 2 slight risk in place across parts of southern and south central Kansas, including areas near Pratt, Kingman, and Medicine Lodge.

Winds could exceed 60 mph in stronger cells, with hail large enough to damage vehicles and roofs possible. Communities along U.S. Route 54 and U.S. 283 may see rapidly changing conditions as storms track east into the night.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, move vehicles into covered areas, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings. Power outages and brief road closures are possible if storms intensify.

The storm threat will taper after midnight, but additional updates and possible warnings are expected through the evening hours.
