Dunbar Township, PA – A decades-old homicide case in Fayette County is drawing renewed attention as investigators seek the public’s help in solving the killing of a 14-year-old boy more than 50 years later.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop B in Uniontown, the investigation began on May 2, 1974, when John David Watson, 14, left his home during the evening hours. Authorities said he allegedly rode his bicycle to a nearby motel to purchase cigarettes for his mother but never returned.

Police said Watson’s body was found the following morning on a neighbor’s property in Dunbar Township. Investigators reported he had been fatally shot, allegedly with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. Despite repeated investigative efforts over the years, the case remains unsolved.

State police said they are again asking for the public’s assistance, emphasizing that even small details could help identify a suspect or suspects allegedly involved. Investigators noted that advancements in forensic technology and renewed awareness may help generate new leads.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Uniontown Station at 724-439-7111 or submit a tip through PSP Tips at 1-800-472-8477. Online submissions are also accepted.

Officials said a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest or helps solve the case. The reward is funded through PSP Tips and is not taxpayer-funded.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward as they work to bring long-awaited answers to Watson’s family and the community.
