Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Another round of dangerous storms is expected to develop by Friday afternoon, putting a large stretch of the central U.S. at risk for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.
According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, severe thunderstorms are likely to form Friday afternoon and intensify into the evening from the southern Plains through the Midwest. The highest concentration of storms is expected from central Oklahoma through Kansas into Iowa, including Oklahoma City, Wichita, Kansas City, and Des Moines.
Storms in this corridor could produce hail exceeding 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts over 70 mph, and a few tornadoes as conditions become more favorable into the evening hours. Major travel routes including I-35, I-40, and I-80 could see rapid deterioration in driving conditions, especially after sunset.
Residents are urged to review safety plans now, charge devices, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings before storms develop. Outdoor activities Friday evening may need to be rescheduled.
The severe weather threat will continue into Friday night, with additional updates expected as the system evolves and confidence in storm intensity increases.
