Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Drivers along the I-95 corridor could face sudden downpours and damaging wind gusts by mid-afternoon Tuesday, with storms intensifying ahead of the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the greatest risk focused along and north and west of the I-95 and I-195 corridors. A Level 2 slight risk is in place for parts of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, including areas near Allentown and Trenton.
Wind gusts up to 60 mph are the primary concern, capable of downing trees and power lines. Storms may also produce heavy rainfall, leading to ponding on roads and reduced visibility on major routes including I-76, I-295, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items and be ready to move indoors quickly if thunder is heard. Commuters are urged to allow extra travel time and monitor alerts as storms develop.
The threat will taper later tonight, but additional warnings could be issued as storms track through the region.
