Wichita, Kansas — Breezy conditions are expected to develop across south-central Kansas Sunday afternoon, with winds increasing between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. and creating travel challenges in Wichita, Hutchinson, El Dorado, Newton and Winfield.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, temperatures will climb into the 80 to 85 degree range Sunday with breezy conditions, followed by even warmer highs reaching 81 to 88 degrees Monday.

This is part of a broader system bringing a steady warming trend across the central Plains, increasing both wind-driven travel impacts and heat exposure risks early in the week.

Gusty winds may push lightweight debris onto roadways and create crosswind hazards on open stretches of highways such as I-135 and US-54, especially in rural areas where vehicles are more exposed. By Monday afternoon, rising heat may increase fatigue risk for outdoor workers and those without shade, particularly during peak sun hours between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Drivers should keep a firm grip on the wheel in gusty winds, while residents should secure outdoor items and limit prolonged exposure during peak afternoon heat.

The most noticeable impacts will occur between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, when winds peak and travel conditions become more difficult.
