South Bend, IN – Two children were injured in what authorities say was a firework-related accident on South Bend’s southeast side Thursday evening.
According to the South Bend Police Department, officers responded to the area near Ironwood Drive and Calvert Street around 5:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, police determined there was no gunfire, but instead discovered that two juveniles had sustained injuries due to a firework.
Both juveniles were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
The scene remains active as investigators continue to gather details surrounding the incident. No further information has been released at this time.
Officials are urging residents to use extreme caution with fireworks and remind the public that even small devices can cause serious harm when handled improperly.
