Chicago, Illinois – Breezy thunderstorms could disrupt outdoor plans across northern Illinois by Sunday afternoon, with the greatest impacts expected in the Chicago metro area and along I-80 as a cold front sweeps through.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop Saturday evening south of I-80, with a stronger wave of storms possible Sunday afternoon and evening. Gusty winds and brief downpours are likely as temperatures climb into the upper 70s to near 80.

Saturday begins with seasonable highs from 73–79°F, but air quality will be poor due to stagnant conditions, particularly near lakeside areas. Showers could impact events from Joliet to Kankakee by late evening. Sunday brings increased storm chances across the metro, including Naperville, Aurora, and Schaumburg, with overnight lows in the 50s.

Monday and Tuesday will stay unsettled, with scattered showers and cloudy skies persisting mainly north of I-80. Drivers should expect slick roads, especially during the morning commute.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid outdoor activities during storm periods. Cooler overnight lows in the 50s may offer some relief, but the chance for pop-up storms continues through Tuesday afternoon.
