Quad Cities, IL- Thousands of residents across the Quad Cities area on the Iowa-Illinois border are currently without power following severe storms that swept through the region Tuesday night.
According to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, the outages began after strong winds and lightning caused damage to power lines and infrastructure. Officials warn that more storms are expected in north-central and northern Illinois, potentially worsening conditions.
Residents are urged to take safety precautions during the outage. Authorities advise unplugging electronic devices, using generators only outdoors and away from windows, and never using gas stoves or grills indoors for heat. Keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed can help preserve food, and if in doubt about food safety, residents should throw it out.
Local law enforcement and utility crews are working to restore power, but no official timeline has been provided.
Drivers should treat all non-functioning traffic lights as four-way stops and remain alert for additional weather warnings. For updates and tips, residents are encouraged to visit Ready.Illinois.gov
