Peoria, Illinois – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday for Peoria, Lacon, and Toulon, as strong storms sweep through Central Illinois bringing the risk of damaging winds and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service office in St. Louis, Watch 361 covers Marshall, Peoria, and Stark counties, where conditions remain favorable for severe storms capable of producing wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to an inch in diameter. No warnings have been issued yet, but residents are urged to stay alert.

City officials in Peoria advised residents to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel through 11 p.m. as storms could knock down tree limbs or power lines. Drivers along Route 29 and I-74 should use caution during periods of heavy rain and poor visibility.

This is the first widespread severe weather watch in the area since mid-May, and while no tornado threat is currently forecast, conditions can change rapidly.

More watches or warnings may be issued later tonight if storms intensify. Stay tuned to local alerts and ensure mobile devices are fully charged.
