Franklin County, IL – A ramp closure on Interstate 57 is set to begin in West Frankfort on Monday, Sept. 23. The northbound exit ramp at Illinois 149 (exit 65) will be shut down for five days.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) states that this closure is necessary to complete roundabout construction at the Illinois 149/I-57 interchange. Crews will work to improve traffic flow in the area, a known congestion point during peak hours.

IDOT advises drivers to plan for alternate routes and expect possible delays. The department is urging motorists to check traffic updates and road conditions on the IDOT website. While the closure is temporary, the work aims to increase long-term safety and efficiency at the intersection.

For additional updates on traffic conditions, IDOT recommends visiting idot.click/u6h. The construction is part of broader infrastructure improvements planned across Franklin County and southern Illinois.

West Frankfort residents and commuters should remain alert for posted detours throughout the closure period.
