Monroe, MI – An Ohio teen’s alleged threat of gun violence against Bedford High School was foiled by authorities Saturday night during the school’s Homecoming dance. The 15-year-old, from Toledo, Ohio, reportedly made the threat shortly before 7:00 p.m., prompting a swift response from Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies and Michigan State Police.
According to Sheriff Troy Goodnough, deputies were dispatched to the school, where the dance was being held, and worked with Michigan State Police to secure the campus. Investigators later determined the teen made the threat over a dispute involving an ex-girlfriend. The juvenile remained at home in Toledo, and his parents were contacted by authorities. His name is being withheld due to his age.
Despite the threat, the Homecoming dance proceeded without incident. Authorities closely monitored students, and the situation was resolved without disruption. Sheriff Goodnough credited the quick coordination between Monroe County deputies, Michigan State Police, and Toledo authorities in preventing potential violence.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (734) 240-7530 or OK2SAY at (855) 565-2729.
