Palos Heights, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has begun repairs on the 127th Street bridge over the Cal-Sag Channel, affecting Crestwood and Alsip. The project started Wednesday and is part of a $14.4 million renovation to replace the bridge deck and concrete approaches.

Daytime lane closures on 127th Street will occur during the first phase of the project to remove the existing raised medians and establish the work zone. Starting Friday, one lane in each direction will remain open between Laramie Avenue and Cal Sag Road (Illinois 83). Drivers are advised to plan for delays.

The project will be completed in stages, with a full closure scheduled for early 2025 to finish the bridge work. The project includes widening the existing multi-use path on the south side of the bridge and installing new guardrails. Final completion is expected in spring 2026.

According to IDOT, the public should seek alternative routes and allow extra travel time. Obey posted speed limits and remain alert for construction crews. The repair is part of the larger Rebuild Illinois initiative, which is upgrading transportation infrastructure statewide.
