Douglas, GA – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Freeze Warning for southeast Georgia from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 30 degrees. A Freeze Watch remains in effect from Friday evening through Saturday morning, with even colder temperatures of 26 degrees possible in Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Northern Ware, Pierce, and Wayne Counties.

According to the advisory, the sudden drop in temperatures poses a risk to sensitive vegetation, outdoor pets, and vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Residents are advised to wrap or drain exposed pipes, ensure outdoor animals have adequate shelter, and take protective measures for tender plants.

The freeze could extend across portions of inland northeast Florida, emphasizing the need for widespread preparedness. Officials urge residents to take immediate steps to safeguard people, pets, and property from the freezing conditions.
